Dr. Cleve Carter III is a native of Montgomery, Alabama. He is a licensed Physical Therapist, Certified Manual Therapist (MTC), Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Clinical Instructor, Certified Professional Educator, and an Assistant Professor. His certifications also include specializing in Fascial Movement Taping (FMT). He is certified by the NDTA in Neuro-Development Treatment (C/NDT) in the Management of Adults with Stroke and Brain Injury. In addition, Dr. Carter has published and presented on researched topics such as peripheral arterial disease, lymphedema, manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, strengthening and conditioning, and entrepreneurship in physical therapy.
Dr. Carter is a proud graduate of the historic Sidney Lanier High School. Thereafter, he was stationed on the Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek in Dam Neck, Virginia Beach, Virginia and Norfolk, Virginia. He served and sailed four years with the United States Navy on the USS Carter Hall and the USS Kearsarge. During his time with the military, he earned the Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist insignia, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist insignia, and the Navy and Marine Corp. Achievement Medal. He has traveled to Rhodes, Greece, Palma De Mallorca, Spain, Rio De Janiero, Brazil, Rome, Italy, Valletta, Malta, Paris, France, Marmaris, Turkey, Cape Town, South Africa, Lagos, Nigeria, Lima, Peru, and Valparaiso, Chile. Before returning home to Montgomery, Alabama, he became an alumnus of Saint Leo University in Saint Leo, Florida. Then, he became a student athlete, playing for the first Hawks football team at Huntingdon College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Creative Writing. This led him to obtain a Master of Education degree from Alabama State University. While earning his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Alabama State University, he worked as a clinical intern at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama, Department of Veterans Affairs Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System in Montgomery, Alabama, Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama, West Georgia Health System in LaGrange, Georgia, and Dynamic Performance Physical Therapy, Inc. in Huntsville, Alabama.
Over his career as a physical therapist, Dr. Carter has worked for Jackson Hospital and Baptist Health, two of the largest hospital-based outpatient rehabilitation centers in Montgomery, Alabama. Prior to establishing Dove Physical Therapy, LLC, he served as the Outpatient Rehabilitation Coordinator for Baptist Medical Center South’s Outpatient Rehabilitation Services. In addition, he served as an adjunct instructor for the College of Health Sciences in the Physical Therapy Department at Alabama State University. Before joining Alabama State University, he served as an adjunct instructor at South University’s Health Sciences and Physical Therapy Assistant Programs. Dr. Carter evaluates, treats, and prescribes exercise treatments for lymphatic dysfunctions such as lymphedema, orthopedic-musculoskeletal dysfunctions, and neuromuscular dysfunctions. Currently, he is a full-time assistant professor for the College of Health Sciences in the Physical Therapy Department at Alabama State University.
